TARNER TOWER

Group installation responding to the bird-life at Tarner Park in Brighton.

Groups from Carlton Hill Primary School, the After School Club, and Tarner Children & Young Peoples Project were involved in making work in response to this public space.

Pigeons were made by Year 6 pupils from Carlton Hill Primary School. They used objects collected from Tarner Park like grass, leaves, feathers, etc, to screen-print textures onto the surface of their birds. These were then constructed to become three dimensional. Blue tits were screen-printed and embellished by Year 4 pupils from Carlton Hill Primary School. Seagulls were screen-printed by the Millwood Centre Youth Club with photos of textures taken from Tarner Park using images exposed onto screens. Starlings were screen-printed by Tarner After School Club.

A group installation was created, with the work displayed in the air, on the floor & the walls around the Tarner Tower.
