MARKET ESTATE PROJECT

The Market Estate Project invited 75 artists and designers to work alongside residents of a soon to be demolished housing estate, in Islington London. The project would turn the building into a creative celebration, a colourful and rich lasting memory of the estate, transforming the flats left behind, corridors, staircases and building facades. More than 2500 people attended the event on 6 March 2010 which invited the public to explore the art works created on site, just before the demolition bulldozers moved in. The event was developed by Tall Tales in partnership with Southern Housing Group, with support from Higgings Construction, The Arts Council England, HTA Architect and Philip Panks Partnership.

My drawing was positioned in the lift area of Tamworth 9-53 and was a response to the demolition of the site.

The skip was painted onto the walls, staircase and the floor. The drawing only occurred with correct perspective and dimensions from one place marked with a boot-print on the floor, which you walked over as you entered the space. The image distorted when viewed from all other angles.
